Funky Chunky was great for adding a bit of movement and zhoosh, and breaking up hair that could look a bit listless and straight. That product, alas, died a death – but here’s a cool replacement from John Frieda, this time in the form of a texture spray that just adds noticeable lift at the roots (zero stickiness, zero crunch, NB), and makes hair look that bit fuller and bouncier. Because it’s used on dry hair, you can reach for it whenever hair’s looking a bit… like it’s lost its mojo. The subtle floral scent makes the whole ritual feel extra indulgent. For eyes, Jo took @stilacosmetics Stay All Day Smudge & Set Waterproof Gel Eye Liner on a January break - and it passed the holiday test with flying colours. Dense, buildable colour glides on smoothly, can be smudged before setting, and then stays put through heat and swimming. Bonus points for the slimline twist-up pencil that never needs sharpening. Meanwhile, an old favourite has made a triumphant return: @johnfriedauk Frizz Ease Dream Curls Curl Reviver Mousse. Recommended again by Jo’s long-time hairdresser Eugene Smith, it tames stubborn, multi-directional hair without crunchiness, adds shine and offers serious hold - all for under a tenner. Eyeshadow-wise, Jo has finally found a worthy successor to her long-finished @tomford neutrals palette thanks to @viseartofficial Eyeshadow Palettes. With beautiful taupes, rich chocolate browns and soft shimmers, they deliver excellent colour payoff while blending seamlessly - the dream combination. Honestly, a first. But when a bumper fun pack from @nailsinc of fab spring shades lands on the desk… well, it’s honestly easier to resist a bag of sweets. Especially when they don’t need the faff of a base coat OR a top coat, but just paint straight onto a naked nail. And especially when it happened to be International Women’s Day/Week/Month/whatever, and looking that bit more pulled-together is really the order of the day 💖 The pic above doesn’t really do justice to the shimmery shades. The banana yellow, pale blue and soft pinky-coral are solid colours, but the rest are shot through with gleam and glimmer, shimmer and glow – and are just so flattering, having the same effect on hands as pearls do near the face.
