Beauty Bible Weekend Steal: L'Oréal x Mugler
Well, this is an interesting and clever (limited edition) collab – and colour us impressed. It’s not the strangest of partnerships, since Mugler’s beauty and fragrance arm belongs to L’Oréal – but it’s still an innovative tie-up. (Not as cheap-as-chips as our usual Weekend Steals, but for designer make-up? A definite bargain.)
We’ve tried three of the products in this capsule collaboration, and are very taken – so, here are our thoughts.
L'Oréal Paris x Mugler Augmented Volume Mascara (Black). Good grippy wand, lasting formula, sweeping on lashings (sorry) of formula that lifts and volumises. (Packaging as sleek as you’d expect, of course. Hey, this is Mugler.)
L’Oréal Paris x Mugler Power Matte Lipstick. Pure va-va-voom; an incredibly richly pigmented lipstick that really gives a fab colour pay-off and lasts on lips. It has the slightly powdery-matte finish that’s so on-trend; you could always layer over a balm (or add a final coat), though don’t expect it to stay put for so long. There are four shades, including a couple of great nudes and a wine colour, but we went for the bold, Parisienne red, above left, by the name of 1974.
L’Oréal Paris x Mugler Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette/£16.99. Now, this really is fab value. We bought the Nude shade – above left – and notwithstanding our advice NEVER, EVER to wear red eyeshadow… well, it works. Probably because it’s on the brown, brick-y end of the red spectrum. Again, these shades are richly-pigmented and very buildable for a show-stopping eye. (There’s an alternative palette, Midnight, with blues and silvers – not our bag.) The Nude, meanwhile, is our favourite product of the whole collection.
These really have the shoulder-padded, look-at-me swagger that we have known and loved Mugler for since the 1980s – in make-up form. And we promise: nobody will mess with you, wearing these…
