Kyūshi oils

Exuding good health from every pore of her perfect alabaster skin, Kyūshi oils’ founder Alice Moore (below) is the best walking advertisement for her up-and-coming brand.

She’s a British make-up artist who spends much of her time in Hollywood (without mentioning names, she’s the make-up-pro-of-choice for one of the biggest acting names on the planet, known for his action roles). But Alice’s own ‘mission’ (um!) is powered by her belief in the power of oils to boost wellbeing. Her boyfriend is a natural doctor and one day, they hope to open their own wellness centre in East Anglia. But for now, there’s Kyūshi.

‘Kyūshi,’ she explains, ‘is a Japanese word meaning “pause.” Its deeper meaning is influenced by the Japanese culture of focusing on one action at a time and giving it your absolute full attention, Kyūshi establishes a ritual, a moment of peace in a world of chaos.’

We rather love the fact that when you get to Kyūshi’s website, the first thing that comes up is a message, delivered slowly, to ‘PAUSE’ and ‘BREATHE’, rather than dive right in. But we really, really like the oils, too – most notably the divine Kyūshi Orange & Neroli blend, based around squalene from Mediterranean olive oil, organic jojoba, vitamin E and a fabulously fragrant blend of frankincense, sweet orange, neroli and bergamot oils. Frankly, we could happily pause and breathe this in all day.

The ‘hero’ product, meanwhile, is The Power of Ten Face Oil, which – as the name suggests – is a mega-blend of 10 oils: hemp seed, argan, sea buckthorn, blueberry seed, cucumber seed, elderberry, red raspberry, watermelon seed, prickly pear seed, blackcurrant oil and rosemary leaf extract.

If ever oils were to convert an oily-skinned person, meanwhile, these are they. They sink in incredibly swiftly, plumping as they go - and that’s important, explains Alice, because as a make-up artist she needs skin to be ready for her to get to work quickly.

Still need convincing, when there are now so darned many facial oils on the market to choose from…? We like that Kyūshi’s come in 10ml sizes, so that you can really experience them as part of your regime, before buying the bigger size.

Though we rather think you will.
