Throughout the world, the Benefit Bold Is Beautiful initiative encourages women to support women – something we have always felt passionate about at Beauty Bible. We also know the hugely positive effect that self care through cosmetics can give people who are enduring harrowing times of different sorts – in war zones, hospital wards, and indeed places which offer refuge.
We remember when Refuge started. Then known as Chiswick Women’s Aid, it was Britain’s first shelter for women and children suffering domestic violence. Over the decades the charity has grown into a national network of emergency refuges, community outreach, independent domestic violence advocacy teams and services specific to different cultures. Refuge also runs the Freephone 24-Hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline (0808 200-0247), in partnership with Women’s Aid.
Begun 31 years ago, Look Good Feel Better UK offers nationwide support for people to manage the cosmetic and physical impact of their cancer treatment. Industry trained specialists run workshops, both locally in person and online, give practical advice and tips to people living with cancer, and not least the opportunity to meet up with others in the same situation. We know from many years of being involved with LGFB what an enormous boost this gives people – both those going through treatment and their families. Sarah will never forget one husband who told the story of going to pick up his wife from a workshop. When he saw the glowing smiling woman coming towards him he said he didn't recognise her at first. When she greeted him, he burst into tears.
