Beauty Bible Weekend Steal: Not Needing New, by Anna Kilpatrick

We started following @notneedingnew on Instagram – real name Anna Kilpatrick – during the pandemic, and truly love her no-waste attitude to life. A former teacher and single mother who had to downsize to a much smaller home, and began documenting her life to show how you can live on a tight budget with imagination and style, still feeling fulfilled – and treading more lightly on the planet, as it happens, in those (probably repaired-multiple-times) shoes.

At Beauty Bible, we really, really hate waste. We know we talk about new beauty products just about every day of the week (and some of them very luxurious, come to that). But because we never take advertising, we are free only ever to share things that we truly rate – and we honestly believe that sticking with products (and using every last drop) is the only way to get the benefits of a product.

This war on waste is honestly also why for years, we ran our in-depth trials, to help identify what really works. In other words, in our own way, we’re trying to do our bit to cut down on the number of products that women buy. Buy fewer, buy better. (Which is why we’ve categorised this as this week’s β€˜Weekend Steal’, because we reckon Not Needing New will save you quite a bit of dosh, over time.)

There’s a bit about beauty in Anna’s book – and some thoughts on exercise and wellbeing, which chime with us – but really, we love this for its swimming-against-the-tide approach to consumerism.

As this book proves, there is true joy in less.
