Adding our support to the Sustainable Beauty Coalition

We know that many of you are interested in ‘green’ – perhaps ‘clean’ – beauty. It’s something we’ve been passionate about all our adult lives, and were so proud to explore in our books The Green Beauty Bible, which came out in 2006, and The Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible, in 2012.

So: we truly welcome a new initiative from industry group The British Beauty Council (headed up by the dynamic Millie Kendall, who we’ve known from her ‘baby’ PR days when she worked with Shu Uemura and then, for many years, Aveda). The Sustainable Beauty Coalition Chair is Jayn Sterland, the MD of Weleda UK and a true sustainability champion.

At Beauty Bible, we love to champion brands that are making a difference in terms of sourcing ingredients, using more sustainable packaging and generally working to reduce their carbon footprint. Many, many of our Beauty Bible Award-winners in the past few years have been environmentally conscious brands, trialed and rated by our independent tester panels, so we know that there never needs to be a compromise on quality.

The mission of the Sustainable Beauty Coalition is to get the whole industry moving in a more sustainable direction, making it easier for consumers to make smarter, greener beauty choices.

If you don’t have time to read that riveting document, you may simply want to know that the Coalition has been set up to do the following – and we’re cheering every action…

• Develop a clear strategy, roadmap and initiatives which will accelerate the sustainability efforts of the industry

• Encourage and strengthen links across the industry, communities, voices, and professional bodies to accelerate collaboration, knowledge and bolder collective efforts

• Work with government to champion the work of the industry and support the government agenda in the race to net zero

• Act to create stronger frameworks and policies for the beauty sector in the UK

• Champion the Green Economy and Green Recovery

• Monitor the progress of the roadmap against its goals; and keep these goals and the overall execution of initiatives under review.
