Fab Find of the Week: This Works discoveries (and rediscoveries)

There’s a special corner of our bedside tables and our bathroom shelves for This Works. It’s a little like having an ‘Ottolenghi Corner’ in your spice cupboard, only in the case of This Works, everything gets used regularly. Because… quite simply… everything does work. Brilliantly. (And don’t just take our word for it; there are several This Works products deemed ‘best in class’ by our testers, over the years, which make it to the pages of the new Beauty Bible book appearing next year.)

In particular, This Works know about sleep. They’ve conducted clinical trials into their sleep products which simply confirm what we know: when we have sleep issues, nothing works like This Works. After a couple of nights of terrible sleep this week (too much to do, too little time), Jo reached for the new-ish Deep Sleep Beauty Oil and honestly, it was like knockout drops, which pretty much kept her zzz-ing straight through to morning. With sweet almond, pomegranate, and rosehip oils, among other ingredients, it’s nourishing for skin, too, as well as having the signature Deep Sleep Functional Fragrance (which includes lavender, chamomile and vetiver) that is scientifically proven to work so – well, we’d call it miraculously. It is hereby appointed her pre-bedtime body anointment, from here on in.

But oh, we’re also LOVING new This Works Perfect Body Vit C Glow – ‘bookending’ our day with this on body skin in the morning (NB fab uplifting scent of geranium and sweet orange), rather than at night: a 2% slow release vitamin C concentration, instantly skin-smoothing and softening and working longer term, so it’s promised, to  brighten and boost collagen production. It’s so easy to de-prioritise body care now that it’s colder and we long to change into clothes/nightclothes as quickly as possible, but autumn-winter skin tends to be so much drier – a combo of central heating and the fact that tighter clothes (vests, tights etc.) actually ‘wick’ moisture from skin, so body care actually needs to be shuffled UP the priority list.

Another rediscovery has been In Transit No Traces cleansing pads. While we aren’t generally regular users of cleansing wipes, This Works’ wipes are our go-to on a late night – and also came into their own for Jo recently when she had to do a deep-dive into foundations for mature skin, for a national newspaper. They swiped off each foundation perfectly, so she could give the next a trial (15 in all), and make up her mind about which to research by wearing for a whole day.

It might not SEEM that In Transit Bronzing Serum has a place in an autumn beauty routine (it was launched this spring) – but gosh, a couple of drops of this wonderfully warm up skin that suddenly looks disarmingly pale. You can add a touch to moisturiser or foundation for an instantly perkier face. (It’s not a self-tanner, but a cosmetic product, so disappears when you cleanse.)

Last but not least? New packaging for a long-term favourite SPF, In Transit Skin Defence, which offers SPF50+ broad-spectrum protection, is beautifully moisturising without being heavy, and works really well under make-up, in our experience. (And yes, despite the cloudier weather, we’re 100% sticking with the SPF.)

So, some old friends, some new discoveries – but you know what? They all, absolutely, live up to the This Works name.
