Fab Find of the Week: Éditions de Parfums Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady Hand Cream

It's a funny time of year for a splurge, but lovers of Frédéric Malle's fragrant modern icon, Portrait of a Lady, will want to be scrabbling down the side of sofas and rummaging through pockets for the pennies to get their soon-to-be-incredibly-soft hands on this.

It is quite literally the loveliest hand cream that we (well, in particular Jo) have ever had the pleasure of smoothing in. She's a lover of the rose-powered POAL (as it's known in the frag biz) perfume, created by Dominique Ropion and offering 400 flowers per 100ml bottle, a patchouli heart, notes of sandalwood, frankincense and a touch of clove, raspberry and blackcurrant. But funnily enough, in liquid form, it doesn't actually suit her skin.

Paradoxically, the hand cream really does – and when applied at night for silkification while sleeping, it's still very tangibly fragrant next morning: a fantastic way to enjoy the scent, which wafts for ages after reapplying during the day. (Little rosy whiffs, while typing!) If you're a POAL-wearer, meanwhile, it will beautifully complement your beloved scent.

Definitely time to hammer open that piggy bank, for this.
