Fab Find of the Week: BYOMA Blemish range
As part of our very first book tour, back in beauty’s Jurassic age, we did a round-Britain tour of Superdrug stores. Quite an eye-opener, we can tell you, because to be honest, when we weren’t signing books, we found ourselves with two very important jobs. One was trying to help women with Asian and Black skin to find a foundation match – which was a real challenge, especially on the high street, back then.
Our other role was guarding the spot treatment fixture. We literally stood there, arms outstretched, counselling teenagers (they were mostly teenagers) to avoid the ultra-strong treatments on sale, and look elsewhere in the store for skincare.
Back then, spot-busting products took the form mostly of harsh lotions, potions and gels, which stripped the skin; honestly, you could have taken your nail polish off, with some of them. And that’s the worst thing, for oily and blemish-prone skin. In reality, it needs plenty of TLC, and to have its barrier function nurtured and cared-for.
BYOMA is a brand that is built on an understanding of the vital role that barrier function plays at keeping moisture IN, and keeping pollution and bacteria OUT. BYOMA Blemish Control Soothing Toner Mist – BYOMA call this ‘your barrier’s chill pill’, to be spritzed when skin is stressed, irritated or ‘needs a little extra love.’ You can follow your cleanser with this, or use it for a moisture top-up as the day wears on.
BYOMA Blemish Control Moisturiser – fact: oily skins always need moisture. This one’s lightweight, soothing moisturiser does the job of protecting and hydrating, while also targeting blemishes and the marks they leave behind.
BYOMA Blemish Clearing Paste – the one to reach for when you’ve an angry red spot. Koalin clay helps de-gunk your pores, while kojic acid and camphor prevent dryness and marking.
There are also two barrier-boosting body products, which tackle breakouts below the neck (we know plenty of people who are afflicated on their chest or shoulders, and would recommend switching to these). Very generously sized are BYOMA Blemish Clearing Body Wash and BYOMA Blemish Clearing Body Lotion, a fab, fragrance-free lightweight body lotion that we’ll happily use on our own, no-longer-spot-prone bods.
