Steamcream Japanese Citrus

Oh joy! Steamcream is back after this top-to-toe moisturiser was AWOL here – that is, absent without our leave – for quite a few years. Created and launched in Japan in 2007, the only product we lavished on our skins in the UK was the Original Steamcream Moisturiser, in its iconic round tins, which came in a range of limited edition designs.

Now Steamcream has just launched The Seasonals Line, with a moisturiser for each skin season. Wonderfully, Steamcream is still handmade in small batches in Japan, using a steam-distillation method dating back to 18th century France – time-consuming, yes, but also key to the signature purity of Steamcream.

We’re reveling in Japanese Citrus Moisturiser, Steamcream’s summer skin fix to deeply moisturise parched skin. It’s deliciously fruity fragrant (but not overpowering) with oils from the peels of mandarin orange, yuzu and kabosu, the last a new one on us but we’re told it's a close relation of yuzu.

Like all Steamcream editions, this is light as a feather and rapidly absorbed; our quick test is always to try these on our hands and fingertips and then type… et voilà, no tackiness at all. Just noticeably softer, more supple skin – exactly what we want, thank you. Now we’re on to arms and the rest, as the natural formulations all work for face, body, hands and feet.

The key ingredients are sugar squalane from sustainably produced GMO-free sugar cane, an instant hydration booster, plus oat kernel flour, an amino-rich ingredient from the Original Steamcream, to help fortify the skin’s moisture barrier.

There’s a range of other Steamcream options, all in unique and charming designs, available in the UK now, including Cleansing Balm and UV SPF30 Moisturiser Plus. So do look online at steamcream.com, and follow on Instagram @steamcreamskincare
