What you see is absolutely not what you get, here. Because… why would anyone clean their face with a BROWN liquid…? It’s totally counterintuitive.

However, we trust Merit implicitly. (Read our review of their brow products here, their cult Flush Balm here and Merit’s genius sheer lip liners, here.) so of COURSE we were going to give this a go. And you know what? It’s just stellar. And when it says ‘double cleanse’, this isn’t just a product to add in: it does both cleansing jobs in one.

Shake before use, squirt into the palm, and the brown liquid morphs into a cream, which can be massaged into a damp or dry face (they recommend at least 30 seconds). We then add a little splash of water to activate the foaming phase – very, very lightly foaming, and totally non-stripping; humectants and emollients leave skin clean, but not squeaky.

Merit Great Skin™ Double Cleanse really does a good enough job on its own of removing make-up, SPF, grime (though we’d recommend need a separate eye make-up remover), OR use it after your usual cleansing balm, for an extra thorough going-over.

pH-balanced, gently exfoliating with PHAs (but we’ve found it non-irritating, NB), it’s designed to be barrier-friendly – and we’re all about that.

So… don’t just books by their covers. And don’t judge cleansers by their rather odd colour, is our new mantra.
