Beauty Bible Loves: Laura Geller make-up finds

We can’t quite believe that Beauty Bible never crossed paths with Laura Geller until a couple of weeks ago. We’ve met so many founders, over the years, followed their journeys – but we’ve had to watch Laura ascend to make-up stardom from afar.

We are now firm friends – and firm fans. Here, you can read our interview with Laura about the ‘musts’ for women over 40, when it comes to make-up and skincare. But on this page, we thought we’d talk you through some of our favourite finds from her range, which she launched over 30 years ago and is, frankly, timeless.

Laura was in town to celebrate the rolling out of her make-up to more stores, as well as doing a personal appearance on QVC (we traded notes over that) – still hands-on, still working it, three decades in. And we love that.

We are, meanwhile, incredibly impressed with all of the below, and also – not pictured, ‘cos Jo forgot to haul it out of her make-up bag – the Laura Geller Longwear Eyeliner Kohl, available in a range of shades, but the one Jo won’t be parted from is Deep Black. As she says, ‘this is probably the most budge-proof eyeliner I’ve ever tried. It glides on, then sets – and whatever the heat or humidity throw at it, it remains unmoved! (I haven’t been able to try it in the rain, yet – because there really hasn’t been any to speak of! – but I have faith.)

Our other new Laura Geller treasures, though, are…

Laura Geller Best of the Best Palette – her bestsellers, in one flip-open palette. And with good reason: this corrals seven baked powders into one travel-friendly kit that you could take anywhere, and be completely sorted. Three neutral eyeshadows, a bronzer, blush and two highlighters. Laura has long worked with an Italian factory – they make the best palettes in the world – and these formulas have been created to blend and build, from softly defined eyes to a glowing, luminous complexion. (See below for a close-up of the pigments.)

Laura Geller Balancing Foundation with Kabuki – If you’ve never used a solid powder foundation, or tried another brand and felt it looked cake-y and drying, or maybe just been afraid that a powder would make you look older – this is a revelation. The absolute opposite of that is true. Its marbleised pigments are designed to be swirled into skin with that kabuki brush, working the small miracle of evening out redness and uneven tone, but delivering a natural, radiant finish. The light-to-medium coverage is buildable, feels weightless, and it’s the complete opposite of the heavy, mask-like effect you might imagine if you’ve never tried this. Great shade range, covering every skintone.

Laura Geller Italian Marble Lipstick – Jo’s favourite lipstick in a l-o-n-g while. It looks like a gorgeous swirl of pigments in the tube – a work of art, honestly – but these blend as you swipe, to a flattering, softly luminous finish. The formula’s so smooth and nourishing that it almost feels balm-like, while the look is groomed and understatedly glamorous. We are petitioning for the return of lipstick, based on our trial of this one, which comes in a range of super-flattering neutrals.

One last divine discovery? The so-clever Hydrating Cream Color + Glow palette, above – again, with a brilliant range of complexion-boosting shades and products – which features a magnifying mirror as well as a ‘normal’ mirror, stacked above each other in the lid – and if there’s one thing that proves definitely that Laura understands the 40+ make-up wearer, it’s that!
