ishga Organic Seaweed Scrub

Sea minerals are wonderful for skin. But most of us aren’t going to be going anywhere near the sea itself for some time, so here’s another way to enjoy some of the benefits of seaweed and mineral-rich salts while you soak or shower, from a brand that the beauty tide just washed up on these shores.

ishga is a Soil Association-certified brand (and how much would we LOVE to visit their HQ…?), founded by a team from the Isle of Lewis (Malcolm’s a scientist, Joanna’s a beauty therapist and Martin is a seaweed expert.)

The name ishga comes from the Gaelic word for water, and the products feature hand-harvested Hebridean seaweed, which boasts high levels of natural antioxidants.

Straight from Scotland’s Western Isles, then, comes their simple but effective scrub, made from unrefined sea salt (which itself contains over 50 naturally occurring trace elements), in a base of jojoba, thistle and almond oils plus cocoa butter, which leaves a slick of nourishment on skin.

What we like – aside from the product itself – is that the packaging is a rubber-sealed jar that can have a future life. Today, salt scrub. Tomorrow home-made marmalade.

There’s a lovely teaser video here – and if that doesn’t have you booking an escape to the Hebrides, nothing will!

Meanwhile, dreaming of sea-bathing – and skin that’s smooth and soft enough to bare, when the time comes.
