ishga Organic Seaweed Scrub

Sea minerals are wonderful for skin. But most of us arenโ€™t going to be going anywhere near the sea itself for some time, so hereโ€™s another way to enjoy some of the benefits of seaweed and mineral-rich salts while you soak or shower, from a brand that the beauty tide just washed up on these shores.

ishga is a Soil Association-certified brand (and how much would we LOVE to visit their HQโ€ฆ?), founded by a team from the Isle of Lewis (Malcolmโ€™s a scientist, Joannaโ€™s a beauty therapist and Martin is a seaweed expert.)

The name ishga comes from the Gaelic word for water, and the products feature hand-harvested Hebridean seaweed, which boasts high levels of natural antioxidants.

Straight from Scotlandโ€™s Western Isles, then, comes their simple but effective scrub, made from unrefined sea salt (which itself contains over 50 naturally occurring trace elements), in a base of jojoba, thistle and almond oils plus cocoa butter, which leaves a slick of nourishment on skin.

What we like โ€“ aside from the product itself โ€“ is that the packaging is a rubber-sealed jar that can have a future life. Today, salt scrub. Tomorrow home-made marmalade.

Thereโ€™s a lovely teaser video here โ€“ and if that doesnโ€™t have you booking an escape to the Hebrides, nothing will!

Meanwhile, dreaming of sea-bathing โ€“ and skin thatโ€™s smooth and soft enough to bare, when the time comes.
