Beauty Bible Loves... Fushi Organic Aloe Vera Juice
In this sweltering heat, we’re lifting our glasses to Fushi, makers of certified organic aloe vera juice. Cold pressed from fresh aloe leaves, this is jam-packed with super-good-for-you polysaccharides to hydrate, calm your digestive system and, as the brand puts it delicately, restore internal balance and inner calm (you get the idea…).
And important to say that aloe vera is simply brilliant for your skin too, both consumed and applied topically – drench a cotton pad and swoosh it over. (One online reviewer testified to its burn-soothing quality after radiotherapy for cancer.) Some skincare brands, including Elemis and The Body Shop, use aloe vera as a base for products rather than water.
Many years ago Sarah was reporting from a WHO conference on medicinal plants and one of the poster plants cited by scientists for its incredible skin-healing and other properties was aloe vera, a staple of Ayurvedic traditional medicine. I used to keep a plant in the stables where my horses lived; when they had a cut or skin problem, I would break off a leaf and smeared on the gooey gel that seeps out. (Good for all pets and people, we think.)
Cleverly, Fushi has come up with an Aloe Spritz, a perfect cooling drink for summer. We’ve been quaffing it happily so here’s the very simple recipe.
Ingredients
3 tbps Fushi Aloe Vera Juice
150ml sparkling water
Juice of one lime
5 mint leaves (a few more if you like…)
Ice cubes
Optional garnish:
Slice of dried lime
Couple of dried hibiscus flowers
Method
• Fill a glass with ice cubes.
• Gently muddle the mint leaves with the lime juice and pour over the ice.
• Add the aloe vera juice and then the sparkling water.
• Stir. Garnish with the lime and hibiscus flower if you like. NB the hibiscus turns it a very pretty pink.
