And while we’re all for an occasional light (LIGHT!) buffing to stop cellular build-up, at Beauty Bible we’ve always maintained that maintaining the skin’s barrier function is absolutely crucial. It’s what stops bacteria and other nasties from getting in. And it’s what helps prevent vital moisture in the skin from evaporating. We have always felt that the skincare pendulum would swing back in the direction of barrier-building, rather than removing its protective layers – and at last, common sense is starting to prevail. Sarah’s Health Notes: Find your own ‘growlery’ Ever heard of a growlery? 📚 Years ago, Sarah read Charles Dickens’ Bleak House and made the delightful discovery of a ‘growlery’ A special room for retreating when life got overwhelming – a place to think, grumble, or simply be alone. Sarah created her own version – a grumpery, first a small terrace during the time she lived in London where she’d go to let off steam (husband wisely knew to stay clear). Later, it became something deeper: a sanctuary. Sarah then realised that a growlery/grumpery can also be a sanctuary. For 23 years her beloved horses provided just that - brushing, riding, mucking out – always present, never distracted. They gently demanded it. When the horses were gone, she realised she missed more than them. She missed that space. So now? It’s a spare room no one uses. A long, aimless train ride with a novel.
