Nowadays, you can barely get a coffee or a sandwich for that. But astonishingly, that’s the price of these e.l.f. Instant Lift Waterproof Brow Pencils, which just landed on our desk. And they’re just what the make-up doctor ordered, for summer.

Fact: eyebrows tend to fade a little, in sunlight – so (especially if you’re blonde or grey) they’ll need enhancing. Allowing for fine strokes, this waxy formula lets you build up the effect you want – and the tip is twist-up, so no need to sharpen.

Brilliantly, this pencil comes in six shades – including grey, yay! (Too few brands offer that option.) In fact, we’d maybe recommend buying two (at this price, you can afford to), to perform the simple but effective brow magic trick we learned years ago – which is to use a slightly darker shade on the arch, for a ‘lifting’ effect. (Run through with the brush on the far tip of the pencil, to blur it all in together.)

We don’t know how these will perform when swimming, but we have been able to put the ‘waterproof’ claim through its paces in recent showers – and these deliver on that promise.
