Spas We Love: @champneysspas Eastwell Manor 🤍 When was the last time you had a ‘spa day’? File under ‘WE WISH’, in our case – but all that looks set to change after Jo was invited to explore the hotel and spa at Eastwell Manor, outside Ashford, and therefore within easy striking distance of her home in Hastings. Something she plans to take advantage of. This is a Champneys location, and of course, Champneys virtually invented spas in the UK. Set in the sprawling grounds of a home that once belonged to Queen Victoria’s son, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (and where she apparently loved to holiday), the spa itself is sleek and absolutely state-of-the-art. Step into the world of Virtual Beauty at @somersethouse 🌟 We got an exclusive preview of this summer’s must-see exhibition – and it’s every bit as powerful as it is visually stunning. Co-curated by a super-cool trio – @bunnykinney (Global Executive Creative Director of Dazed Studio), educator and writer @gonzaloherrero and visual anthropologist @matti_fries the exhibition was previously shown in Japan, and is open here in this stunning Georgian gallery beside the Thames, until September. (We love that you can ‘pay what you can,’ opening it up to a much wider audience.) Many of us have become obsessed with manipulating our self-image (Instagram filters, anyone?) – and indeed, by projecting it into cyberspace. From the wax maestros at Baobab Collection, the Fety range of candles is really rather special. The Belgium-based brand (who have a gorgeous outpost on Marylebone High Street) has put together this collection, hand-crocheted by women in Madagascar – the eighth year of working with the cooperative, which enables women to make a decent living and to send their children to school. No question, the candles are pricy – but it helps, knowing that they’re created in this kind spirit. How to reset your skin barrier (and why it matters) ✨ There’s been so much emphasis in skincare circles in the past decade about ‘getting your glow on.’ All manner of products to scrub and peel and remove the top, dull skin cells. And while we’re all for an occasional light (LIGHT!) buffing to stop cellular build-up, at Beauty Bible we’ve always maintained that maintaining the skin’s barrier function is absolutely crucial. It’s what stops bacteria and other nasties from getting in. And it’s what helps prevent vital moisture in the skin from evaporating. We have always felt that the skincare pendulum would swing back in the direction of barrier-building, rather than removing its protective layers – and at last, common sense is starting to prevail.
