How do you bottle the spirit of adventure? Cleverly, that’s what Liz Astor has done, in a trio of just-launched fragrances which are the very essence of her fascinating life. Two lucky readers will each enjoy a discovery set, then the fragrance of their choice

Liz Astor is our kinda gal. She grew up enjoying trips to her grandparents in Norfolk – an outdoorsy life of meadows, beautiful trees, trips to the beach. At 19, she was marooned in the Indian Ocean for nine days on a tiny cargo ship, with zero food and a captain who wouldn’t let the passengers fish for their dinner. And over the years, she has gone on to combine a deep love of travel with years as châtelaine of one of the most famous houses in the country, Hever Castle.

Along the way, Liz has always followed her nose, enjoying a deep love of fragrance. And we are excited to say that Liz Astor has now firmly entered the spotlight with a trio of fragrances that are rooted in a love of raw materials and storytelling. To create them, she works with a Grasse-based perfumer, Hélène Prévot, who is clearly a little bit genius at turning Liz’s dreams and experiences into quite stunning scents. (They’re pictured together below.)

The Liz Astor fragrances – which, as she puts it, ‘are made to empower women and inspire confidence, elegance and joy’ – inspired by Liz’s love of travel and adventure. These have taken from Morocco’s spice-laden souks to long stays in the sunlit landscapes of southern Europe, and each reflects her fascination with places where scent hangs vividly in the air. They convey a different facet of her olfactory world – each one a bit like an olfactory postcard, we think.

So, we couldn’t be more chuffed to offer the exclusive opportunity for two Beauty Bible readers to win a Liz Astor fragrance. The three in the collection are…

Hethersett, which is a return to Liz Astor’s roots, taking its name from her grandparents’ home, where she embarked on early experiments in perfume-making, mixing petals foraged from their garden. (Suffice to say, this collection is a step forward.) An elegant, sun-dappled chypre–fruity, Hethersett evokes walking through English gardens, orchards and swaying meadows. Think bright, crisp fruits and soft florals, threaded through with a classic mossy–woody undertone for poise and polish. To us, it’s all fresh linen, ripened fruit and green shade on a long summer afternoon. Bliss!

Nadira No.9 meaning rare, precious, exceptional – captures Liz Astor’s journeys through the Middle East, along ancient spice routes and oudh-scented nights. Somehow rather contemplative, it evokes the stillness of desert air beneath a vast, star-strewn sky, where time seems to pause. It’s built around warm amber, spiced woods and soft musks, with night-blooming florals for a slow-burning sensual depth on skin – and oh, it lingers gorgeously.

8.7°S 118.3°E, inspired by her time adrift at sea (that number is the geographical location of where she was lost), is wild and radiant, capturing salt spray, sunlight and sea air in a bottle. Bright bergamot, mandarin and grapefruit sparkle over aromatic clary sage and a wash of jasmine, while patchouli and vetiver anchor it with a subtly earthy, skin-warm trail.
