Spectacle Performance Crème
‘So,’ we wrote to our friend Olivia Falcon, founder of The Editor’s List, who got this cream onto our radar, ‘what optical pigments does Spectacle cream have in it, then?’ Because it works as well as any product promoted as a ‘line-smoother’ that we’ve ever tried.
Literally the first moment Spectacle Performance Crème is applied, skin looks better. Smoother. Lines blurred. And a little… well, healthier. We’ve been using it at night, and sometimes in the day with an SPF layered over the top (we REALLY hope at some point they’ll bring out an SPF version), and we’re pretty flipping impressed.
And yet… no blurring pigments in there at all, apparently, just a combination of other fairly high-tech ingredients, in an unscented, multi-tasking moisturiser that is also THE most brilliant, smoothing primer for make-up. At first, we thought the ‘My skin instantly looks better’ thing was an illusion, but no. It. Happens. Every. Darned. Time.
Ingredients DO include niacinamide, bio-fermented squeal and gallic acid (a highly anti-inflammatory polyphenol), ceramides, peptides – lots of good, effective stuff. There is also a small dose of retinol, which would explain the longer-term smoothing effect, and we can report that on skin that is sometimes a little iffy with retinol and highly active skin creams generally, there’s no adverse reaction at all – in fact, on the contrary, it’s super-soothing, one of those creams that have skin going, ‘ahhh, yes, THANKS,’ when applied.
Olivia is a beauty editor friend from way back (we knew her during her Tatler days), who tried this cream herself and set out on a mission to share its wonders with the world, joining forces with Spectacle brand founder Andre Condit to bring it to Europe and investing in the brand.
And we say: roll up, roll up for the Spectacle.
