Fab Find of The Week: Mermade Ionic Blow Dry Brush

Here’s a story with a sad beginning and a happy ending. Sarah popped in to see her singer and music teacher friend Anna before Christmas to find a situation of beauty woe. Not only had the boiler bust but Anna’s long thick auburn hair was - to put it politely - a bit of a bird’s nest. Luckily, Sarah had just the thing for Anna to try and wow! did the Mermade Blow Dry Brush deliver. Here’s Anna’s review:

‘My fine and very plentiful hair is 45cm root to ends so it falls to somewhere around my mid chest. It needs a lot of styling to look good. I have used various types of hot round brushes and ended up tying my hair and myself in actual knots trying to achieve super casual mermaid curls à la the beautiful Duchess of Cambridge.

‘The problem for me is the middle bit. This is where the bubble gum pink Mermade comes into its own. With the Mermade, it’s possible to lift your root for a moment then smooth down the middle of the tress while still giving a satisfying bounce to the ends in no time at all. The bristles are flexible enough not to tangle and to allow you to pull the brush out of the hair in any direction.

‘Mermade list “ionic technology” as a feature of this brush and it certainly smooths the hair to a sheen that I usually need a straightener for. While my fringe is growing out, using the Mermade means that I’m managing to achieve a smoothly peaked and flicked away fringe. There is a video online to demonstrate the technique, thank goodness!

‘A handy, well-thought-through feature on the Mermade is the heat settings, which sit in exactly the right place to change in lightning time. This is perfect to create lift at the top and avoid damaging the rest of the hair with heat, especially my ends which are bemoaning the pandemic’s interference with their regular trim.

‘The Mermade Blow Dry Brush is a product that really does its job. It is not the cheapest blow dry brush on the market but its ergonomic oval design makes it very usable, maybe even essential if you have longer hair.’

PS This really is for long hair; Sarah tried it on her much shorter, layered mop, and had to give up.
