Fab Find of the Week: Jurlique's new masks
It came as a surprise recently to discover that… Jurlique had for a while disappeared from the UK market. A brand we’ve been devoted to for over 30 years, quietly taken off the shelves while they figured out a new distribution model. And – gosh, we feel bad about this – we didn’t even realise that it had slipped from sight.
The good news? Jurlique is back, with a new distributor (Luxury Skincare Brands) – and some fab new products, in the form of delicious masks, the first in a series of launches anticipated over coming months.
Now, we love a mask. We love being told to ‘relax for 5/10/15 minutes’ (or whatever, while it works its magic. And we love the effects – often a quick pick-me-up or boost that daily skincare can’t deliver. We are certainly super-keen on the results delivered by these two…
Jurlique Peeling Jelly Mask is the brightener. Sounds scary – we tend to run a mile from ‘peels’, but this is gentle yet effective, leaving skin really radiant after 10 minutes. (10 minutes lying down doing nothing, in our case.) Natural, skin-friendly fruit acids, PHAs (Poly-Hydroxy Acids, which penetrate more slowly and less deeply than AHAs), together with pineapple enzymes – one of our favourite and super-effective exfoliating ingredients – are a real pick-me-up for the complexion that can, they say, be used up to three times a week. (NB These masks aren’t cheap, but with these formulas, a little really does go a long way.)
Jurlique Soothing Water-Cream Mask is the gentle one for drier skin. (And nothing to say you can’t alternate these.) It boosts moisture levels in as little as two minutes, but we prefer to leave this on overnight to allow its cargo of 99% natural origin ingredients (think: cucumber extract, aloe vera, marshmallow root and chamomile) to sink in. And when they say ‘water mask’, that’s really what it is: a thin liquid that you smooth over skin, but which you can almost hear being slurped up by cells. The result? Plumper, smoother, softer and more quenched skin, as promised.
We haven’t tried the third newbie in the range – Purifying Clay Mask– because we’re not mad for clay masks with our thirsty skintypes. But what we are also keen on is the very clever applicator brush that you can see above, with a silicone smoother at one end, and a brush at the other – so that no nook will remain untreated! As yet, however – frustratingly – this is for salon use only, but we’d heartily encourage Jurlique to add it to their e-commerce site, because it’s a wow.
Jurlique will be focusing on increasing distribution, notably via spas – and we couldn’t be happier. This natural brand has been on our radar for over three decades, and we’ve always felt it deserved to be more widely known – and loved as much as we love it.
