Fab Find of the Week: Kure Bazaar lipsticks

Gulp. Researching this lipstick from Kure Bazaar – who you may know from several Beauty Bible Awards wins in the nail categories, over recent years – we had a bit of a chilling moment.

‘Each year, almost one billion lipsticks are thrown away after use,’ says Kure Bazaar president Christian David. The eco nail brand’s first foray into make-up, then, had to be in line with their sustainability values – which meant refillable, for a start. The aluminium tube can be recycled, but more importantly, reloaded pretty much ad infinitum.

And – we like this – Christian is also quoted as saying ‘It was also important to position the product at a price in-line with that of the market for luxury lipsticks.’ So, not a beauty steal by any means, but not heart-stopping, either.

There are three formulations, all of them containing plenty of lip-caring botanical bounty – think: wild mango butter, pomegranate, squalene, argan oil, cocoa and shea butters, with what they call a ‘Superfruit’ formula. And no performance compromises for switching to these natural formulas, trust us. We like all three, for different reasons.

Kure Bazaar Satin Lipstick – so glam. Just SO glam. Quite glossy at first, it works to stain the lips so that after the shine’s worn off, lips remain nicely pigmented. (We have Couture, which is a show-stopping pinky-red.)

Kure Bazaar Matte Lipstick – not flat-matte, more velvety, mega-pigmented and with enough nourishment not to feel tight on the lips. When you want a ‘ker-pow’ moment, this won’t disappoint. (We tried Tea Rose, a deep pinky-brown-y red that would look good on any skintone.)

Kure Bazaar Tinted Balm – this is the one we’re headed out to buy in lots of different colours, offering Slanket-like comfort and a good level of tint – yet sheer enough to slick on blindfold. Our current shade is a see-thru red, Rouge Flore, but a berry is on the shopping list.

One last plus? Each lipstick comes in a sleeve created from repurposed denim, upcycled from couture clothing factories.

This is eco-elegance, at its finest.
