Beauty Bible Weekend Steal: Botanical Lab Witch Hazel + Salicylic Acid Cleansing Pads

With its pore de-clogging, gently exfoliating action, salicylic acid is a spot-sufferer's friend. So if you're prone to breakouts – not just on the face but neck, back, chest – then check out these cleansing pads, which contain 2% of this ingredient (it's derived from willow), along with witch hazel for toning, removal of dirt and impurities, and shine-busting.

One or two of the Botanical Lab Witch Hazel + Salicylic Acid Cleansing Pads /£9.99 for 60 pads, should do the whole face, and while we don't normally recommend pads – muslin cloths can be washed and reused – it's particularly important that anything that's used on spotty skin is scrupulously clean, which would mean reaching for a fresh cloth each time. Because these are plastic-free – created from 60% Tencel and 40% wood pulp – they will break down in the compost heap.

There's an accompanying Botanical Lab Purple Ginseng + Niacinamide Mattifying Moisturiser; at £12.99 for 40ml, it's slightly above our cut-off ceiling for a Beauty Bible 'steal', but if you get on well with the pads, worth considering. (Still pretty good value for a moisturiser.)

Just because you want to shine this season, doesn't mean your complexion has to.
