Beauty Bible Loves... Trinny London Take Back Time Overnight Hand Transformation
We’re longstanding fans of Trinny Woodall (as you’ll know, if you read these pages) – and friends, too. But adoration aside, what we love is her her determination to tackle the beauty concerns that women actually talk about. Like hands – which we’ve always maintained can give your age away faster than a glimpse in the front of your passport.
So, ta-dah! Enter Trinny London Take Back Time Overnight Hand Transformation: a targeted concentrate paired with what we’ll admit is a slightly scary-looking 0.5mm microneedling roller, designed specifically for the backs of hands. (Actually, we were so nervous, this sat on the bedside table for quite some time before we dared to use it – whereupon we were pleasantly surprised, and just kicked ourselves for not doing so sooner.) In other words, this isn’t just another lovely hand cream (we’ve got plenty of those) – it’s a treatment protocol.
The science bit: the pump-action concentrate combines an L-ornithine lipo-complex to help plump, alpha-arbutin and a bio-retinoid to target uneven pigmentation, plus our old friends, peptides, to help smooth crepey texture. The roller, meanwhile, creates tiny channels to enhance the concentrate’s effects – and yes, you can definitely begin lightly, while you get used to the sensation.
In fact, we’re counselled not to overdo things, using the concentrate daily and roller three times weekly on alternate nights, following the cleaning instructions and contraindications carefully. (And if you have sensitive skin, there’s a warning against use.) Then take a month’s break after eight weeks of rolling. So: serious stuff.
It’s much too soon to tell how effective this is going to prove (although we THINK they look smoother already!) But the brand’s own results are encouraging: in a 12-week, split-hand clinical study involving 32 women aged 45–70, crêpiness improved by up to 28% in seven nights, while dark spots reduced by up to 62% after eight weeks. (Those are maximum improvements, of course, not everyone’s guaranteed outcome.)
But we are very keen on the way this makes a real ‘thing’ of hand care. Diliegence is what pays dividends, here, and what hands need – if you’re going to see improvements – is to care for them almost religiously, until that becomes a habit.
Maybe you just want a hand cream with a pretty smell, to leave hands soft? Plenty of those around. But, er, we’ve got to hand it to Trinny for taking this particular beauty challenge as seriously as we do.
