This Is Silk Cream Cleanser and Radiance Renewed Silk Overnight Oil
Many of us are fans of silk accessories: eye masks, scrunchies, pillowslips, hairbands, all so gentle on skin and hair.
That type of accessory is how the Cotswolds-based This Is Silk brand made its name (in fact, they were voted ‘Silk Pillowcase of the Year’ – for there is such a thing.) And now here’s what truly feels like a logical development: skincare, harnessing the power of silk peptides, as ingredients.
As This Is Silk founder Sonal Keay explains: ‘Silk has long been used in Japanese and Korean skin rituals and is only now getting the attention it deserves in the West. Now, a LOT of skincare lands on our desks. But these ain’t going anywhere (except straight onto the bathroom shelf, that is). We’ll start with the This Is Silk Silk Cream Cleanser, which has reminded us of the joys of cleansing with a good, old-fashioned style creamy cleanser. There’s nothing old-fashioned about the formula, though: a nourishing, oil-rich blend featuring rice bran oil, mango seed butter, chicory root extract, vitamin B5 and lashings of silk peptides. Best removed with a hot cloth, This Is Silk offer one of those, too, in – yes, you guessed it – silk. It’s deliciously soft on skin, leaves it feeling nourished and certainly does the job of sweeping away the day (taking make-up and grime with it).
We are perhaps even more enamoured of This Is Silk Radiance Renewed Silk Overnight Oil, a rich facial oils blending bakuchiol and rosehip oil with silk peptides, and offering the most sense-drenchingly wonderful scent of jasmine, rose and lots of neroli. (It reminds Jo of the Vintner’s Daughter face oil (which comes in around the two hundred quid mark!) Honestly heavenly, whether used on its own or with a couple of drops blended into your night moisturiser.
No doubt This Is Silk creams will follow, after this debut – but meanwhile, we couldn’t be happier about the way this leaves skin feeling… well, just like silk!
