Rise and Shine: How to Transform Your Life, Morning by Morning

So here is an alternative to waking up in the morning, switching off the alarm, rolling over and looking at your phone. It’s what so many of us do, first thing – and if you’re find yourself more scatter-brained and unable to focus, it’s almost certainly connected.

After reading a fascinating article on the Penguin website, here, we have taken to approaching mornings a little differently, reading before we look at our phones.

And oh, this is a lovely way to ease yourself into doing just that. Rise and Shine (Piatkus books) is really positive read, packed with good tips and advice, from a sister and brother author duo (Kate Oliver a psychologist and executive coach, Toby Oliver a yoga teacher).

It covers sunlight, breathing, movement, breakfast, nature, exercise – lots and lots of practical stuff, in bite-sized chunks, to better set you up for the day.

And as far as we’re concerned, much as we enjoy social media, we like ourselves much better for ‘Rising and Shining’ in this way than we do after we’ve scrolled through pictures of raffia place mats, fluffy kittens and what our friends had for dinner last night.

You’ve nothing to lose by giving it a go. And – as the Penguin article points out – you might just regain your concentration.
