Beauty Bible Loves... Diptyque Parisian Café candle collection

Sometimes, if we’re lucky, you’ll find us on the street outside a coffee grinder’s, sniffing the air with eyes closed. There are few more heavenly or transporting food scents in the world; it’s an aroma which haunts even ex-coffee drinkers, for decades after their last sip.

Well, the good news is that this new home fragrance collection from the maestros at Diptyque captures the scent of fresh-ground coffee gorgeously. Inspired by the coffee menu at Paris’s Café Verlet, the cornerstone of the collection is the Café (Coffee) classic candle, evoking the scent of just-toasted beans.

If you prefer your coffee in the form of a sippable double espresso, though, the Parisian Café collection has three further fragrances to delight. Each promises a burn time of up to 60 hours.

Take Biscuit (as it were), which smells yummily biscuity without being over-sweet, infused with notes of cinnamon and patchouli.

We’re told that the Café Verlet’s windows showcase exquisite sugared fruits, which are conjured up in the Fruits Confits candle, with notes of sugarplums, orange and patchouli. It’s a little bit tart, not oversweet at all, and quite mouthwatering.

Our least favourite (but that’s just a personal thing) was the most gourmand creation in the line-up, Chantilly, a sweet swirl of sugary, whipped cream notes, with a generous dash of vanilla in the mix. If you’re a vanilla fan, though, you’ll definitely want to check this out.

There’s also a set of three smaller candles, a limited edition Gourmand Collection (pictured below), featuring all fragrances except Fruits Confits.

It’s such a pretty collection all round: fun, flirty, all-round fabuleux, gorgeously packaged, with whimsical illustrations on the labels. Jo and Sarah got to sniff their way through the candles at Diptyque’s stunning Sloane Street store the other day.

We were not only quite charmed, but are left wondering whether a little trip to Paris might be in order, to watch the world go by from the table outside a real café.

Meanwhile? We’ll make do with lighting one of these.
