Love it when the universe is attuned to our beauty needs… Just as Jo’s current Chanel foundation-slash-tinted-moisturiser squeezed its last, this landed.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation Hydration and Longwear is the perfect, late summer complexion-evening make-up, with just enough pigment to make skin look healthy and glow-y (as the name suggests). The finish is satiny, and perfect for current strong light levels.

Wonderfully hydrating (Healthy Glow is enriched with glycerine), it’s super-comfortable on the skin, also featuring an ingredient by the name of ‘kalanchoe extract’ (new to us, that one), ‘known for its climatic adaption capacities’. It’s said to shield skin against pollution.

In this upgrade of the original Healthy Glow, it definitely has greater staying power – up to 12 hours, they promise (not quite that in Jo’s experience, but it stood up well during some pretty make-up melting weather.) But most notably, it comes in a really vast shade range. (We would expect nothing less from a truly global brand, but you’d be surprised…)

Just to demystify how the shades work… Well, they have different undertones: ‘B’ stands for ‘Beige’, which simply evens out skintone. ‘BD’ shades (it stands for ‘Beige Doré’) warm up the skin with subtly luminous shimmers, while ‘BR’ (it stands for ‘Beige Rosé’, or Rosy Beige) gives a healthy, fresh, rosy effect. Within each sub-category, the shades span pale to really deep.

This will beautifully see us through to the time of velvet skin, in a few weeks’ time. (Cue quiet sobs, from a team which never wants summer to end…)
