Oh, we do love a refill. But we especially love a refill when it contains something we truly love, and that’s true of these new Compostable Refill Pouches from Bramley.

Think: Bramley Hand Cream, Conditioner, Bubble Bath and Body Lotion, which now join some of their other bestsellers as compostable refills. These are products that we adore and are always pleased to encounter ‘in the wild’ (as Jo did last week, giving a speech at Nancarrow Farm in Cornwall).

It’s very clever stuff. As Bramley explain, ‘The new 100% plastic-free pouches are composed of two parts, an inner compostable pouch to contain the product, and an outer cardboard wallet for quick and easy decanting. The inner pouch is made from a cellulose and biopolymer composite, while the cardboard outer sleeve has both FSC and PEFC certification and is 100% recycled and recyclable. All materials are tested for eco-toxicity and are marine and food safety certified, making them suitable for cosmetics.;

Here’s the deal: you order the pouch online, and it’s filled BY HAND that same day and delivered 24-48 hours later. You need to decant it pretty smart-ish, as it’ll start to disintegrate within five days. (That’s how you know it’s properly biodegradeable!) You can recycle the outer cardboard, rinse out the inner pouch and put it in with your food and garden waste.
