Ashley & Co. Wash Locks Shampoo and Soft Locks Conditioner

New Zealand name Ashley & Co. describe themselves as 'a modern day scent company', so it's not surprising that the fragrance of this hair duo is what seduced us here.

First off, we need to say: these are whacking great sizes. And not cheap. But they do offer a huge, huge pleasure factor, leaving hair soft, manageable and really quite heavenly-scented. (We can never get past a too-synthetic smell in haircare, ourselves. And we've never really been ones for hair that smells of cupcakes, that's for sure.)

So: the scent. Fresh, and a little bit herby, airy and spring-like – they call it 'Peppy & Lucent', which kinda sums it up. Definitely, gorgeously, clean. There are touches of eucalyptus (to stimulate hair growth) and rosemary oil in there, along with lemongrass, crushed mint, wild jasmine, blackcurrant buds, basil and patchouli. Wash Locks lathers very well (yet no sulfates), getting our hair perfectly clean without need for a second shampoo, and leaves hair bouncy, rather than weighted down. Very shiny, too.

Though we did (for detangling reasons) use it with the Soft Locks conditioner, a rich but (again) not weighty formulation, featuring stimulating ginseng and pro-Vitamin B5 for moisture balance. Really quite surprisingly good results on hair which has taken its usual central heating battering, over the winter.

And – literally – a breath of fresh air, scent-wise.
