Well, who could have imagined an English summer in which sun protection would have been quite so necessary…? (Reminds us of the endless summers when we were children, and the school holidays stretched blissfully ahead...)
As a result, we’ve been reaching for high protection products for the face – and this is a completely brilliant find for the sensitive-skinned (which includes us), from Avène – who are masters of the art of skincare for touchy skins.
Maybe not quite as ‘fluid’ as the name suggests, it’s a milky, light, matte-finish, water-resistant product based on mineral filters. Our experience is that the interaction of sun and chemical sunscreens can trigger rashes and irritation in vulnerable skins – sometimes ‘under the surface’ in the form of red bumps, but definitely not what you want at a time when applying much more than a smidgen of make-up is going to look mask-like. (On which note, although it’s a mineral product, it blends in very easily without ever looking chalky. There’s a tinted version, too, which we’re looking forward to trying.)
What we really like about this is that the lightweight, flip-top bottle fits easily in a handbag. So when we’re caught outside a café enjoying a sunny coffee with a friend, it couldn't be easier to reach for this and apply a layer to the décolletage, for instance. (Which is perfectly angled to get UV over-exposure.)
Here’s hoping we’ll get plenty of use out of it for months to come.
