If you feel you've a bony chest (as quite a few women we know do), that's no reason to avoid low-cut dresses. Simply use a mattifying moisturiser rather than a glimmering product, for a flattering effect.

In this peak cold-and-flu season, boost your natural defences by mixing two parts Biofirce Echinacea tincture with one part Bioforce Thyme. Add the prescribed number of drops and take daily in water, to up your immunity.

Contemplating a department store makeover in the run-up to Christmas? Keep track of looks you'd never wear, and communicate that to the make-up artist. If you hate blue eyeshadow, you probably always will. It's more important to know what you don't like than what you do โ€“ the dislikes are what make you unhappy.

If you can afford it, this is the time of year to splash out on the pure perfume concentration of your favourite perfume. It seems like you don't get much, but it's a much more concentrated version of the fragrance โ€“ and you'll still be able to smell it on your skin next day. In terms of longevity, it's actually the best value!

To get the most out of your workout, stop reading on that exercise bike. Studies by experts at Manchester's Metropolitan University found that the more you focus on the muscle you're working on, the more intensive the workout. And you can't do that while you're staring wide-eyed at the latest pictures of the Kardashians...

Need to cover up a spot? Dip a cotton swab in concealer and dab it directly onto the spot until it disappears. The fine tip gives you more precise coverage than a finger, but is less fussy than using a brush. (Dabbing with a fingertip can sometimes also remove as much product as it applies.)

We all yearn for longer, leaner legs but some exercises are better than others for sleeking. (Relying on cycling alone can give you Popeye-ish calves.) Happily, walking is the best (not to mention cheapest) exercise for all legs โ€“ use long, lengthening strides. Pls, when you exercise, the temperature in working muscles rises; this increased temperature stimulates blood flow, and as a result, improves both circulation and skin appearance. Flex your ankles whenever you remember, sitting at your desk โ€“ and as for swimming, the muscle-lengthening movement of breaststroke is better than crawl's speed-kicking.

Make-up artist Rumiko reveals: 'Your eyelashes are the same texture as your hair. People with fine hair usually have fine lashes, whereas those with thicker hair have naturally thick ones.' If you have thin eyelashes, go for a thickening or volumising formula, whereas if they are short you'll go for a lengthening version.

Falling asleep in the bath is really dangerous โ€“ especially if you've had a drink or two. If you've a tendency to nod off while bathing, set an alarm on your phone for โ€“ say - five, 10, 15 minutes, to wake you from your slumbers.

Love this, from the ever-beautiful Brooke Shields: 'When I drink too much alcohol, only have a few hours of sleep, don't eat well and don't sweat, I look five to 10 years older. But putting yourself in the position where you're not chasing youth is the best way to stay young.'

If you're booked in for an anti-cellulite massage โ€“ for instance, lymphatic drainage โ€“ don't worry if the masseur's only using the lightest of movements. As Kate Shapland of Legology explains: 'The worst thing you can do is to have it slapped, poked and pushed about by a heavy-handed masseur. Anti-cellulite massage should be so gentle that you barely feel it.'

It's best to harden lip or eye pencils before sharpening them. 10 minutes in the fridge will do the trick. If you want to use the pencil straight away, roll it between your fingertips to soften it again. (Obviously you'll need to remove any marks with a wipe or cotton pad soaked in remover.)
