Weekend Steal: Gloves in a Bottle Shielding Lotion

Our friend Gill Sinclair calls this a โ€˜heritage productโ€™ โ€“ we might say โ€˜oldie but very, very goodieโ€™. In fact, it was Gill (co-founder of the best-ever natural health and beauty website victoriahealth.com) who reminded us of โ€˜Glovesโ€™, as itโ€™s been most affectionately known for more than two decades. (A timely reminder, as the packagingโ€™s had a bit of a zhoosh, lately.)

It was the early 2000s when Sarah first wrote in YOU magazine about this innovative product, which quickly became iconic, loved by everyone from celebrity chefs (one collared Sarah in the Ladies at a charity quiz to thank her for recommending it), to gardeners, kitchen fitters and builders handling cement, plaster, grout etc, and people with psoriasis or eczema, or conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

Poignantly, the district nurses looking after Sarahโ€™s brother in his last days told her their team had one bottle they all shared - that was soon remedied. Then the exhortation to wash hands during COVID triggered an outbreak of red, raw paws and brought another crowd of devotees.

So, whatโ€™s the secret? In contrast to topical hand creams and lotions which stay on the surface and are easily washed off, Gloves actually gets to the root of the problem, which is the loss of natural oils and moisture through a dry, flaky/scaly, ineffective skin barrier. Gloves bonds with the outer layers of skin โ€“ the barrier โ€“ so it keeps out moisture-robbing irritants of all kinds and allows the skin to heal from within.

Online reviews are raving about it all these years on as a miracle cream. One reviewer said she was sceptical because it was so cheap. Please donโ€™t be.  Gloves deserves all the many accolades.
