Living Proof Perfect hair Day (PhD) Body Builder

Normally, we're not big fans of hairspray. Rarely find one that doesn't kill a hairdo dead, frankly. (And who needs helmet hair?)

But desperate times – in the form of Bad Hair Days – call for desperate measures, and on one flat-haired morning recently, we decided to give this a go.

From the haircare brand in which Jennifer Aniston was originally involved (and from which she made a fortune when it was acquired by Unilever), this is deliberately designed not to tame hair, but to give it some extra oomph.

So the effect is sort of mid-way between what a dry shampoo does (also great for adding volume when hair's gone flat), and an actual hairspray. The difference is that this of course does deliver hold.

And you can control that hold! There's a clever nozzle (it takes a bit of practice) that you turn to (M) for more or (L) for less body. You section hair and spritz to add body, which then lightly and quite airily stays in place. (And unlike so many hairsprays we've tried, it really does leave hair quite naturally shiny.)

We'd only use it in a real S.O.S. – but yup, even we do have those. And as it's available in a dinky (airport-security-friendly) 98ml small size, as well as a £23 for 275ml full size version, that's a pretty small investment in an occasionally utterly invaluable hairstyling weapon.
