Make-up tips for partially sighted teen

Q. My 13-year-old partially-sighted niece is becoming interested in make-up.  Could you suggest somewhere that could provide suitable make-up lessons that won’t break the bank?  She lives in Solihull in the West Midlands. A. Finding a local make-up artist or company experienced in giving make-up lessons to partially sighted or blind clients is tricky.  We tried several avenues but drew a blank.  We suggest you (or your niece’s mother) ask local salons for a lead on this one.

However, the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) suggests your niece explore the work of two young bloggers, both with profound vision problems, who look like just the ticket for her to start off with.

Emily Davison, 22, was born with a condition that affects her endocrine (hormonal) system and her vision.  She is registered as Severely Sight Impaired.  Emily is a prolific writer, journalist, YouTuber and blogger, who set up fashioneyesta.com to show that people with a disability could still be passionately involved with fashion and beauty.  You will find Emily blogging on everything from the latest make-up palette for the season to fashion trends plus lots and lots more.

Lucy Edwards, 20, who comes from Birmingham (so quite near your niece), lost her sight completely two years ago.  Your niece can find Lucy’s tutorials on make-up by logging on to YouTube and going to Yesterdays Wishes.

We also found a really useful American website, visionaware.org, which gives detailed instructions on skincare and make-up application.  We do hope this helps your niece and if we come across anything else we will post it on our site, beautybible.com
