J’Tanicals Skincare

Yup. We’re still not QUITE sure how to pronounce J’Tanicals, either. Ja-tanicals or Jay-tanicals…? Well, either way, it’s what skin needs right now, ravaged by central heating and cold weather outside, spring still seeming rather far off.

The range has been launched by Julia Wilde, a charming German entrepreneur (she visited the UK when travel was relatively painless, a couple of months back) who grew a successful CBD supplement company before turning her attention to CBD skincare.

What role can CBD play in cosmetics…? Let’s leave it to Julia to do the science bit: ‘When applied on the skin, CBD delivers its benefits via receptors of the endocannabinoid system and TRP (transient receptor potential) channels in the skin, creating positive results – sebum-regulating, anti-oxidative, calming and soothing, as well as restoring balance for a healthy skin.’

It is wonderful for sensitive skins – we speak from experience. There are three products for now. First step: Deep Sea Rebalancer CBD Gel Cleanser/£34.95, which we found not QUITE rich enough for our dry skins) until we took Julia’s advice to add a couple of pumps of the Floral Collagen Magic CBD Face Oil/£79.95, to the cleanser, before applying. In its own right, the oil is luscious and super-nourishing, enriched with bakuchiol (nature’s alternative to vitamin A), together with collagen-stimulating lupin extract, in a base of jojoba, grape seed and safflower oils.

But in particular, we’re loving the J’Tanicals Probiotic Safeguard Moisturiser/£49.95, with its rich, nourishing and plumping texture – a total thirst-quencher for winter skin, powered by a hyaluronic acid complex, squalane and calming licorice root, along with a 1% CBD complex. It’s particularly designed to help restore skin’s barrier function – something that’s very relevant in winter (it helps prevent our natural moisture from evaporating), but set to be a bit of a beauty focus, product-wise, in 2022.

We did mention to Julia when we met that the packaging’s a bit over-generous, meanwhile. Yes, we’re only referring to the cardboard outers – but we’d still prefer to see boxes that reflected the size of the product inside, in order not to waste packaging. She’s already on it – and the next packaging run will be downsized, fitting the products snugly.

But still: if you can hear a sort of slurping noise, from where you are, that’s our complexions soaking up the goodness in that lovely, luscious moisturiser…
