Salons We Love: The Pelican Rooms, Deal

We have long believed that the place in which you have a therapy is actually… part of the therapy. In fact, the British Holistic Medical Association used to run an award which recognised exactly that, the β€˜Healing Spaces in Holistic Healthcare Award’ – the idea that the feel of a place itself can enhance the power of the treatment itself.

Jo was reminded of how important the setting itself is on a recent visit to Deal, where she enjoyed – properly enjoyed – a relexology treatment in the beautiful setting of The Pelican Rooms, overlooking Deal’s beach. (You can just see the pier in the background!) All sea blues, mermaid wallpaper, sisal rugs and beautiful design details, it had the feeling of pure seaside sunshine, even on a grey autumnal day. (The one thing we would say:

It is owned by the same people as The Rose, Deal’s loveliest hotel and place to eat, and – as with the hotel – the details are fabulous. But, important as they are, the surroundings aren’t everything – and that’s where the healing hands of a great therapist come in.

Kate, the lovely woman who gave Jo her treatment, used to work at Neal’s Yard Remedies and Haeckels, so she knows her stuff. There are many different treatments on the menu, here – Gua Sha facial techniques, Hydrotherm massage and sports/remedial massage for musculoskeletal issues – and the primary range used is at The Pelican Rooms is VOYA, the seaweed-powered brand of which we’re big fans, which seems rather appropriate for the setting. There is also sports massage, Hydrotherm, different facials… Lots to explore, and even a little yoga studio.

Wish we lived nearer, really – but a good excuse for a return visit to this pretty seaside town. And experience the place itself being part of the treatment…
