Fab Find of the Week: Baobab Collection Fety Candles
Don’t know about you, but we have winter scented candles, and summer scented candles – and this is our 2025 warm weather fave. (Because – yay! – we’re having some!)
From the wax maestros at Baobab Collection, the Fety range of candles is really rather special. The Belgium-based brand (who have a gorgeous outpost on Marylebone High Street) has put together this collection, hand-crocheted by women in Madagascar – the eighth year of working with the cooperative, which enables women to make a decent living and to send their children to school. No question, the candles are pricy – but it helps, knowing that they’re created in this kind spirit.
In four sizes (right up to mahoosive), this Fety collection is decorated with raffia – they call it ‘raphia’ – the leaves of which are hand-harvested and cut into strips for dyeing and crocheting. (And no, before you ask: there’s no risk of setting the candles on fire, because they have a glass interior.) This year’s collection (see below) is inspired by the colourful deckchairs that line the beaches of the Côte d’Azur, and each candle fragrance ‘nods to the breezy, aquatic, sunny and warm scents of the region,’ as they put it.
Our choice from this sunshine-perfect line-up is the green version of the candle – called Milalao – with a scent that is perfectly poised between fresh and heady, mixing zingy mint, grassy vetiver and sweet ylang ylang. And as with all Baobab Collection candles, it burns beautifully.
Do check out the other scents in this luxury raffia-clad line-up – here – but meanwhile, that’s summer’s signature scent sorted, for us.
