Fab Find of the Week: Dr Somji Pro-Active Skincare

At a time of year when our complexions really need some expert TLC, we’re more than a bit thrilled to have discovered the Dr Somji range, which has just won the gold gong for Best Doctor or Dermatologist Founded Brand in the Beauty Global Awards. Well deserved, according to reviewers and we’d agree.

A leading aesthetic surgeon, Dr Munir Somji set up the Dr Medispa clinics in London and Essex in 2014 together with his wife Henal Patel, a medical aesthetician and skincare expert. (And yes, the clinics are award winners too.) Faced with clients struggling with complicated regimes, often based on harsh ingredients that irritated their complexions, Munir and Henal spent five years developing their skincare range to offer patients – and everyone else, of course – simple effective regimes for their skin concerns, based on proven actives many plant-based. So combinations to help different skin types, acne, redness, fine lines/wrinkles, also post procedure options.

A key ingredient in the formulations is different exosomes from intriguing naturals such as green tangerine and water radish. These nano-sized messenger molecules were first used in the early 20th century for targeted drug delivery and tissue regeneration in wound healing, organ repair and neurodegenerative diseases. Now, exosomes are a buzzword in skincare.  Henal calls them ‘one of the most exciting breakthroughs’, because of their ability to signal the skin when to repair and regenerate, and to calm inflammation.

Sarah is very impressed with the Exosome Barrier Repair Serum used in tandem with Vitamin C Daily Defence Moisturiser SPF30, which has noticeably evened out her skin tone and leaves it smooth and supple, despite a ghastly lingering lurgy which would usually leave her complexion in a poor state.

Particular mention also to Nourishing Cream Cleanser, which whisks away the day’s grime of all sorts leaving skin clear and comforted. Next up for us to try, the Signature Serum and Night Recovery Cream.

Make no mistake, this is serious skincare – and yes, at a serious price but we’d say: if it wouldn’t totally bust your beauty budget, the products are seriously good. Do have a browse on the site and maybe start with one or two. You can also follow them on Instagram @drsomjiskincare. We’re pretty sure you’ll be impressed.
