Fab Find of the Week: Dior Cinnamon Glaze Holiday Collection

We are going to stick our necks out here and say: this is one of the most beautiful and covetable make-up collections we’ve ever seen, in all our many, many years of beauty editing.

Right now, DIOR are very cleverly tapping into their amazing heritage – not least with the Dioriginals fragrances, including classics like Eau Fraîche and Diorella, which have been remastered by Perfume Creation Director, Francis Kurkdjian. (And more on those, in due course.)

But the packaging for the just-launched DIOR Cinnamon Glaze make-up collection references many different elements of the brand’s design universe. We are old enough, actually, to remember when Dior had a couture outpost on Conduit Street, where the dove grey decor was adorned with white-painted, beribboned ‘frames’ with the oh-so-recognisable logo, in the exact shape of the ‘star’ product from this Cinnamon Glaze collection (see below).

The Dior Médaillon Lip Balm, featuring the ‘Fontanges’ bow that is a signature of the house, is more than a sparkling pink lip treat that slips in your handbag, for go-anywhere hydration; it has a peel-off back which can be attached to your phone. (Can we tell you how tempted we are to do that…? At our age!!??)

The rest of the collection is almost equally divine, notwithstanding the price tags. Perfect Christmas gifts – to self, or ask someone special to give these to you, but press on them the importance of grabbing them NOW, because we just know these will fly.

The thing we like about this collection is that it’s just so universally wearable and flattering. Take the Diorshow 5 Couleurs collection (in 623 Cinnamon Glaze, see main image), with five warm, honeyed shades – again, designed around that celebrated medallion. (Note: there is a ‘cooler’ palette of shades, too, in this collection – but much harder to pull off.)

For lips (more affordably priced than the previous two offerings) there are double-ended Rouge Dior Sequin Lip Duos, see above. Cleverly, this Dior lip innovation offers a very pigmented shade at one end (with a doe-foot wand for application); it goes on matte, but (don’t ask us how this works) morphs to a glittery finish when you smack your lips together, over which you then swipe a complementary gloss. (Or you can, of course, wear the gloss on its own.) The product is a fixture in the collection, but two shades – 729 Biscuit and 973 Sweet Spice – are seasonal. (Both gorgeous, and again, both will work on any skintone.)

We are always suckers for gold nail polishes, but not just any gold; 713 Gold, pictured here, is distinctly Versailles-worthy. (But we also love the other limited edition shade, a slightly cooler 767 Golden Cinnamon!) Note: Dior polishes have always been OUTSTANDING in terms of how well they last on nails.

The only just-for-this-season product that we might steer clear of is the Forever Luminizer, a highlighter. We can get the shimmer we need for brow bone and eyelid from the 5-colour palette (the oyster shade in the centre is perfect) – and after a certain age, highlighter elsewhere on the face can be perilous, either drawing attention to wrinkles or making a mature face look a tad… well, sweaty.

There’s one last gem that we have our eye on, meanwhile: a limited edition Golden Medallion palette into which you can slip Dior Cushion Foundation; since we have one of those, we might just have to give it a new outer case (and we will definitely be channelling Marie Antoinette vibes, as we apply or reapply what is a truly excellent cushion foundation).

And we can but dream of the Dior Couture Palette, below – two shades of Rouge Blush, two highlighters, five eyeshadow shades and a quartet of satin-finish Rouge Dior lipstick shades. *Sigh*. (For the first time, actually, we are just beginning to feel the teensiest shiver of excitement about Chr*stmas!)

Utterly, bewitchingly gorgeous, the whole flipping lot. We will be rattling our piggy banks, going through our pockets and excavating the sides of the sofa, for a splurge…
