Beauty Bible’s Weekend Steal: Aroma Active Laboratories

We are not exaggerating when we say this is one of the most exciting ranges to have crossed our desks in a l-o-n-g time – and we’re just so incredibly impressed at its affordability. Perfect for a new feature we’ll be running every Friday, Beauty Bible’s The Weekend Steal, which focuses on bank balance-friendly finds.

Aroma Active Laboratories is the fulfilment of the long-held dream of our late friend Geraldine Howard, co-founder of Aromatherapy Associates, who wanted to bring high-quality aromatherapy to everyone. And this range – created by Boots in partnership with Aromatherapy Associates (whose products have scooped too many Beauty Bible Awards to list, and are long-standing faves of ours) – is just INCREDIBLY impressive. True self-care, at bank-balance-friendly prices.

The comprehensive range is sub-divided into four categories: SLEEP (for those who struggle with sleep difficulties – which includes most of us, right now); SOOTHE (to ‘calm and rebuild dry skin); SOS (to ‘uplift when you’re feeling down’), and MUSCLE (a not-terribly-sexy name, perhaps, but which offers relief to ‘a tight, tired, stressed body’). We’ve been lucky enough to try a wide range of products across the whole range, and these are some particular favourites.

Aroma Active Laboratories Sleep Mist/£10 for 75ml  Performs as well as products three or four (or more) times as pricey, with a properly sleep-beckoning blend of lavandin, valerian, ylang ylang and buddhawood. Wonderfully grounding, and we like to spray our nighties as well as our bedlinen.

Aroma Active Laboratories Soothing Solid Lip Oil/£8  A solid lip oil? Yup, that’s new to us, too, but what it means is that this is a seriously softening blend for dry, chapped lips, based around shea butter, jojoba oil and calendula, and infused with uplifting (and gorgeous) neroli oil.

Aroma Active Laboratories Soothing Universal Repair Cream Rich/£10 for 100ml. If you honestly wanted to scale down your skin regime to one product, you could do it with this – fine for faces, and for bodes, with a skin-nurturing formula infused with blue tansy, lavender, immortelle and patchouli. (NB We very much like the fact you can buy a ‘key’ for winding the aluminium tube to get every last drop out, price £6.) If you have normal-to-combi skin, there’s a ‘light’ version of this cream, too – but this does the trick on our drier skins.

Aroma Active Laboratories Muscle Recovery Soak/£15 for 250ml. Jo used this milky bath treat after a really, really l-o-n-g New Year walk, and it both warmed her (it was pretty brutally cold out there), and relaxed her muscles, with turmeric, rosemary, ginger and cinnamon oils working their magic.

Aroma Active Laboratories Soothing Overnight Face Balm/£15 for 50ml. Don’t be put off by the fact this calls itself a ‘balm’; it’s actually a rich moisturiser that plumps overnight, featuring calming bisabolol, oat kernel oil and prebiotics, plus a blend of blue tansy, lavender, patchouli and immortelle. We honestly don’t know if we’re more taken with the plumping texture – or the scent.

On which note, the Aroma Active Laboratories products are all really high in aromatherapy oils – meaning they’re properly, authentically therapeutic, but also smell utterly wonderful.

Just the doldrum-buster we need, right now.
