Frock-Up Friday
Donโt know about you, but weโre getting to the bleurgh stage of #lockdown now. Just general flatness. As Jo put it, โFrankly, I wouldnโt mind being chased by a sabre-toothed tiger right now, just for the adrenaline jolt.โ
If youโre feeling the same โ that thereโs just nothing very exciting happening right now โ then you might want to join the stylish band of followers who have embraced Frock Up Friday.
Frock-Up Friday was actually born in Joโs home town of Hastings, though itโs gone a bit viral since then: the idea that on a Friday, instead of pulling on your joggers or jeans or PJs, you reach into the wardrobe and pull together a โlookโ. And then grab your make-up bag, and do your make-up as if there was something happening in the world more thrilling and uplifting than socially-distanced queueing for food, wrangling your home-schooling kids or jumping on to yet another Zoom-of-Gloom call.
It really is a joyous thing. It was set up by Susan Simms (who signs as Sister Suzie on the Hastings music circuit) and her friend Bevali Francis. As they explain: โFriday nights became the nights to dress up. Getting ready for the weekend and choosing outfits became a bit of a tradition between us.โ
โIsolation wasnโt going to stop us, so we decided we would still โFrock Upโ on Fridays and just share a photo to show one another what a weโd chosen to wear.โ They they invited friends on Facebook to do the same, and since then, Frock Up Friday has notched up over 13,000 Facebook followers, many of whom post their Friday outfits on the Frock Up Friday Facebook page. Itโs really worth a visit.
There is soon to be a book curating many of the gorgeous photos, too (you can pre-order). We know so, so well from all our years in the beauty business how make-up can lift someoneโs spirits โ and so can getting dressed in something pretty or fun.
So if you need bucking up, we say: Frock Up tomorrow! (Although can we also ask: where did yet ANOTHER week go?)
