Beauty Bible Loves... C.Atherley candle

The C.Atherley bath and body range – Cath Kidston’s new, fragrant, geranium-scented venture – wowed us when it first launched, at the height of summer, tapping into our own deep love of these scented plants.

Well, geranium season may be over – ours are safely stowed in a light-filled shed, and dotted around the house, to stay snug over the colder months – but we can close our eyes and recapture that midsummer vibe with this candle, which just joined the geranium-y line-up.

And honestly, it might be our favourite item yet in this line – truly, the scent of fragrant leaves, filling the house in a way that the plants themselves actually never do, because to access their scent, you really need to rub the leaves between your fingers.

It comes in a lovely green glass that will be upcycled as a posy vase, once this candle has flickered its last (that’ll take up to 45 hours, we’re told). We rather like, meanwhile, that each candle is hand-poured ‘in a converted dairy in the UK’s South Downs.’ (Wicks are lead-free, made from braided cotton, for a clean burn.)

It’s very much a ‘scented candle’ time of year, for us – a way to bring some light to what feel (in every way) like dark days.

And this is a lovely reminder that yes, summer will arrive again. And all will be well…
