7 Secrets of Beauty and Wellbeing: Laura Tudor of Centred haircare

We are always fascinated to find out what helps people to stay balanced and centred in an increasingly crazy world. Centred, meanwhile, is just the right word when it comes to Laura Tudor – because that’s just what she named her haircare range.

We featured Centred during the first lockdown, which felt very timely as the range was devised to tackle the effects of stress on hair, something she had experienced first-hand. (Read our Beauty Bible Loves review here.) So who better, then, to talk about how she copes with it – now that Laura, like the rest of it, is locked down again…?

I like to take a second, look up, and breathe. This has become my daily mantra, a reminder to constantly work on my breath. If I’m feeling a little stressed, I take a few minutes out to go for a walk. It’s really grounding and when we are all normally looking down at phones it’s so refreshing and freeing to look up, be present and take in exactly where you are at that moment.

My morning ritual sets me up for the day. As soon as I wake I have a small list of affirmations that I say to myself before I even open my eyes. I follow with a morning ritual that I practice every day, which makes me feel ready to take on the world. It includes little acts of self-care such as washing my face with my favourite natural face wash and brushing my teeth. Along with always making my bed. As soon as I do this small list of tasks I know that I have already achieved something positive before 7.30 a.m.

I sleep on a silk pillowcase. Through my hair loss journey I looked at all aspects of my life and looked for ways in which I could naturally improve my hair health. Using silk pillow case is definitely one of my favourite beauty secrets – sleeping on one can help your skin retain moisture along with reducing spilt ends and frizzy hair!  A vegan alternative would be to use a bamboo pillow case which also has lots of amazing beauty benefits. The best thing about a silk pillow case is that it works it magic when you are asleep. (Another tip is to invest in a silk hair bobble - they reduce pulling and kinking compared to a normal hair elastic.) 

I’m a fan of a shower filter. Another one of my favourite, effortless beauty secrets is swapping to a mineral shower filter. I live in London where the water is hard and high levels of calcium and magnesium which, like limescale on your crockery, can build up on the hair and make it dry and brittle. The tiny balls of minerals help balance and purify the water and have lots of benefits for the hair and skin. The switch to a mineral shower head was incredibly easy and instantly made a difference to how the water felt and my hair was softer when it dried. 

Supplements are essential for me. Taking my supplements in another part of my morning self care-ritual; however it deserves a mention all by itself. Over the past few years I have been taking a range of supplements, and I have seen such a positive impact on my health. Eating Organic is also a must. Eating organic has its obvious health benefits, being free from pesticides and preservatives, but I also benefit from the positive mental effect of it. Ever since made the decision to reduce the amount of toxins and unnecessary chemicals I expose my body to I find I take care of myself a lot more. I am much more conscious about what I consume within my diet and what I consume in other ways too, whether it’s beauty products, or even the amount of social media I consume. It’s important to protect my own energy. Cooking is just another form of self-care, every time I make myself food I always take it as an opportunity to show myself some love and eating organic food means that I am consuming the most nutritious foods.  

I believe in the power of massage. I  started to do scalp massage after my hair loss in 2018, having researched its benefits for promoting hair growth. It’s now part of my weekly care routine as it really helps to relieve tension, helping me to unwind on a self care Sunday as well as keeping the scalp exfoliated and healthy for growing healthy hair. I also try to have a back massage once every month or so, this help me relax and release the tension so my body is as much as ease as possible
