Winter lip tips from The Lipstick Queen

Australian-born, Manhattan-dwelling Poppy King, now 42, has been passionate about lipstick since she was seven. She launched her first lipstick range aged 18, and is now acknowledged worldwide as the ‘Lipstick Queen’ - which happens to be what her iconic brand is also called. Each lipstick in each collection – this season it’s Silver Screen - is luxurious, from the highly pigmented colour and texture like double cream to the decadently gorgeous packaging.  They are lipsticks that demand to be admired as you apply them publicly – just like those celluloid idols. Now, for Beauty Bible readers, Poppy shares her thoughts about how to keep your lips luscious as the chilly season whips around us.  Here’s Poppy’s winter wisdom:

‘The winter can wreak havoc on your lips thanks to constantly revolving between the cold weather outside and the drying central heating inside so it’s important to give your lips a little extra TLC as the days start to get shorter.

‘Firstly, exfoliating dead skin is key. Use a soft, old toothbrush or a flannel to gently remove flaky skin.

‘As for what to wear on your lips to prevent them from feeling dry, it’s typically been the glossy, sheer formulas that are the most moisturising but with my Sinner collection of 90 per cent pigment lipsticks, you can still go for a matte finish without worrying about your lips drying out, thanks to their unbelievably creamy and nourishing formula. This pigment-rich lipstick is loaded with shea butter so it feels ultra-nourishing and comfortable and will keep your lips in shape even in the harshest weather.

‘My final tip for keeping dry lips at bay, in addition to wearing a beautiful, nourishing formula of lipstick or or gloss is: never lick your lips! It just dries them out faster than anything else. But if you’re wearing a beautiful lipstick, you won’t want to anyway!’
