Jo’s Scent Notes: FLOWER BY KENZO 🌺 As Jo admits in this week’s Scent Notes, when you don’t have a signature scent, it’s easy to forget past perfume loves. At a recent event hosted by The Fragrance Foundation, she was reminded - powerfully - of one: FLOWER BY KENZO. The evening was spent listening to Master Perfumer Alberto Morillas, the genius behind iconic scents like cKOne, Gucci Bloom, and Marc Jacobs Daisy. As Jo and fellow fragrance lovers inhaled his creations, one spritz transported her back to a long-forgotten phase: her FLOWER BY KENZO moment. It’s a cloud of a fragrance - soft, powdery, floral, with a whisper of vanilla and musk. How to reset your skin barrier (and why it matters) ✨ There’s been so much emphasis in skincare circles in the past decade about ‘getting your glow on.’ All manner of products to scrub and peel and remove the top, dull skin cells. And while we’re all for an occasional light (LIGHT!) buffing to stop cellular build-up, at Beauty Bible we’ve always maintained that maintaining the skin’s barrier function is absolutely crucial. It’s what stops bacteria and other nasties from getting in. And it’s what helps prevent vital moisture in the skin from evaporating. We have always felt that the skincare pendulum would swing back in the direction of barrier-building, rather than removing its protective layers – and at last, common sense is starting to prevail. Fab Find of the Week: @connockengland Verdant collection 🤍 There aren’t many scents we come across that you’d feel happy wearing both on your skin, and to scent your surroundings with – but Connock England Verdant is really rather special. Created by Amanda Connock, who founded her British fragrance and beauty collection in 2010, with a fragrance called Kukui: warm, exotic, built around gardenia, with notes of Italian bergamot, jasmine, sandalwood… It was followed by Kukui Noir (a more intense, evening version) – but the just-launched Verdant collection brings it all back home to the English countryside, where Connock England is based. Green, fresh – all cut grass, hedgerows and summer sunshine, bottled – it’s just the scent for right this (overheated) minute. Sarah’s Health Notes: Find your own ‘growlery’ Ever heard of a growlery? 📚 Years ago, Sarah read Charles Dickens’ Bleak House and made the delightful discovery of a ‘growlery’ A special room for retreating when life got overwhelming – a place to think, grumble, or simply be alone. Sarah created her own version – a grumpery, first a small terrace during the time she lived in London where she’d go to let off steam (husband wisely knew to stay clear). Later, it became something deeper: a sanctuary. Sarah then realised that a growlery/grumpery can also be a sanctuary. For 23 years her beloved horses provided just that - brushing, riding, mucking out – always present, never distracted. They gently demanded it. When the horses were gone, she realised she missed more than them. She missed that space. So now? It’s a spare room no one uses. A long, aimless train ride with a novel. Lying in a field, staring at clouds. Even grump-digging buttercups in the garden. The point isn’t the place. It’s the pause. The self-kindness. The decision not to snap or spiral – to soothe instead. Fab Find of the Week: @reia_store Handcare and Bodycare 🥰 We applaud the actions of beauty brands – and there are plenty of them – to embrace sustainability. But Reia, which we recently encountered at 2025’s Chelsea Flower Show, are making it easier than any other we’ve seen. Reia make truly gorgeous all-natural handcare and bodycare, with a small collection thus far, free from SLS/SLES, parabens and mineral oils. The products smell LOVELY – FEN is lime leaf, amber and vetiver are the key notes listed, with a scent that is designed to be ‘reminscent of the tangled hawthorns and rich flora found in British hedgerows’, we’re told.
