We’re not going to tell you how long we’ve been visiting Cosmetics à la Carte, or using their products. Except that… it’s decades. And honestly, over the years, the service offered by CALC, and the make-up and skincare creations in their range, have only grown more joyous, frankly.

Astonishingly, Cosmetics à la Carte was founded way back in 1973 by cosmetic scientists Lynne Sanders and her friend, mentor and colleague Christina Stewart. Frustrated by the beauty choices on the high street and in department stores, they set out to create a welcoming space – a bit of a playground, if you like – where women could try out colours, new looks and generally feel very special. They may now operate from a different location – on so-cool Pavilion Road, near Sloane Square – but the vibe is the same. You’ll still often Lynne there – tireless, fun, so knowledgeable and generous with her tips – and nowadays, she has the joy of working alongside her beautiful daughter Bella.

Cosmetics à la Carte is one of the few places you can get a PROPER make-up lesson, in London – learn tips and tricks, brush up your skills, learn how to play up your good features (and play down your less-favourite ones). When we popped in the other day, a grandmother – a customer all her adult years – had brought her 14-year-old granddaughter in for a lesson, and it was the sweetest thing to watch.

If you’re lucky enough to win one of the five x £200 vouchers on offer in this week’s prize draw, you could do the same. Uniquely, the store also offers bespoke foundation, concealer or lipstick blending sessions – ideal if your favourite shade/product has been discontinued, and you can find a list of all the fab services on offer here.

But while it’s a major treat to visit the boutique, Cosmetics à la Carte also offer mail order – and thus, this prize draw is open across the UK, because the vouchers can be redeemed via their website. You’ll find literally every make-up item – for eyes, lips, face – as well as effective and heaven-to-use skincare (the Ultimate Rose Collection is a particular favourite of ours). So, where would we start, if we won this prize…?

We might start with Beauty Bible Award-winning Rose Hydrabalm/£35, with its collagen-boosting peptide complex, vitamin E, rosehip oil (and a divine, subtle rose scent). Or perhaps Skin Veil/£50, a magic mousse that blurs fine lines and smooths the appearance of pores (and another Award-winner).

There’d still be plenty left over to treat yourself to the Sheer Brilliance Caring Lip Gloss – we recently raved about the new Pavilion Road shade, here; this formulation feels as cocooning as a lip oil. And maybe we’d add an Overnight Renew Body Oil/£59 for 100ml, to our cart; this won a Beauty Bible Award last year, and you can read the testers’ comments here.

All in all, this is a truly wonderful opportunity to deep-dive into a range that we have long known and loved. We can’t recommend too highly a beauty pilgrimage to Pavilion Road – you can just drop in, of course – and their @cosmeticsalacarte Instagram is a great follow.

THIS PRIZE DRAW WILL CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY 8th MAY 2024

NB Winners are chosen via a random number generator and there is no cash alternative to this prize. Prize draws are open to residents of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
