Sarah’s more than a bit in love with this new version of Green People’s award-winning SPF15 Sun Cream, partly – well, perhaps mostly – because her usually resolutely pallid lower legs are now a fetching honey after a few hours in the garden in her cozzie. So no need to fire up the fake tan with this.

The tan accelerator in this formula, which has 86% certified organic ingredients, is a natural ingredient extracted from the fruit of the carob tree. Inositol stimulates melanin production, kickstarting the body’s ability to tan. Since melanin is your natural defence against UV rays, this also increases protection against damage from UV rays.

Green People’s trials on human volunteers found they tanned an average of 25% faster, the depth of tan increased by over 28% and the fade rate was significantly slower.

We have always admired Green People for its dedication to producing effective, lovely to use sun care, based on natural and organic ingredients, and the company’s unshakeable ethics. Green People sun care is now 100% reef-safe and comes in fully recyclable, renewable packaging from sugar cane farmed on sustainable land. This, they say, makes it even better than carbon neutral, as it actually removes CO2 from the environment.

This vegan SPF15 sun cream, which has some water-repellent properties down to berry wax in the formula, offers broad-spectrum UVA/B protection plus antioxidants to help prevent cell damage. It’s suitable for sensitive skin and also people who suffer eczema or prickly heat, as the berry wax doesn't block pores.

Finally, it’s worth noting that the USA FDA has revealed that its own testing shows six of the synthetic ingredients used in chemical sun screens are absorbed into the body and may linger in the bloodstream for days but have never undergone safety tests. Six further synthetic chemicals should also be safety tested, according to these regulators. Of course, this doesn't mean these synthetic chemicals are definitely un-safe – but no one knows.

However, the FDA says that zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, the physical screens that bounce back UV rays, are safe. This Green People product gives medium protection with titanium dioxide, natural cinnamic acid and edelweiss extract.

All together, now: here comes the sun…
