Fab Find of the Week: LORDS home fragrances

Lordy be! (Sorry, couldn’t resist that.) Do we have a great – and very reasonably-priced – home fragrance brand to introduce you to!

A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of meeting Sasha Lord, the ‘Lord’ in LORDS fragrance house. Dressed in pink and green (see below), the colours chosen for the livery of her brand, Sasha talked us with infectious enthusiasm through her gorgeous brand, founded after a decade of experience in the cosmetic and fragrance world.

LORDS was conceived during COVID, when events at her existing business, The Aroma Company, was put on hold – it was heavily involved in hospitality (cancelled), events (cancelled) and retail (also cancelled). Clearly not a woman to twiddle her thumbs, Sasha found herself musing that the home fragrance world needed something a little jazzier, more colourful and exciting. (Those are adjectives which we think apply to Sasha herself, BTW.)

The result is just lovely. There are quite a few fragrances to explore, but we’ve picked out some favourites below. And what else this range has going for it is the fact that each scent is available in several different formats – so whether you’re scented candle fan, a diffuser sorta person, whether you like to add oils to an aromatherapy burner or prefer to spritz your space for an instant scented ‘zshoosh’, you can do just that. (There are also pretty drawstring Scent Sachets for perfuming your drawers. Er, and your drawers; also, LORDS suggest, you can pop one on a radiator, where it will diffuse beautifully…)

Here, then, are some of our fave finds, in the line-up – but there’s SOOOOOOO much to explore. With a growing list of boutiques and retailers who stock the product – see it here – you can also find them in-store, and sniff your way through the collection in person.

All of the following products are available in all of LORDS’ scents, but we hope this gives you a flavour. (Or rather, the olfactory equivalent of a ‘flavour.’)

Oxfordshire Reed Diffuser/£35 for 200ml. The ‘English country garden’ scent, within the LORDS range – a whisk-you-to-summer bouquet that was dreamed up during that lockdown when, as Sasha puts it, ‘The garden became a refuge for many of us, a place to have hope and enjoy the simpler things.’ With summer still a way off, we’re enjoying the tart blackcurrant bed, rose geranium, sweet pea and moss notes, with its hints of woods and musk.

Abernethy Forest Fragrance Oil/£18 for 10ml. LORDS invite us to ‘Smell the wonder of the forest at Christmas time’ – but this is akin to a bracing woodland walk at any time of year, we think, with its breeze of pine, cedarwood, peppermint, moss and patchouli. (Technically limited edition, but still on their site.)

Pengelli Forest Candle/£34 for 225g. Think: spring, in scented candle form, named after part of the largest block of ancient oak copse in west Wales, with a mossy lushness beneath the notes of hyacinth and bluebell. Pretty, pretty, pretty. (Another limited edition, we’re told – so be quick!)

Ceramic Reed Diffuser Set/£50 (above). You know how most diffusers are – um, how can we put this? – super-ugly? LORDS has come up with a beautiful (again limited edition) ceramic diffuser pot, into which you decant your scent, and add the pink reeds. This fab-looking hand-thrown vessel is (as they explain) ‘designed to be washed out easily for you to be able to change your scent for years to come.’ Any of the refills – and LORDS is big on refills generally – can be used in the little vase, but we are especially loving herby-citrus Big Sur, zesty wtih bergamot, lime and grapefruit, but with woody, green and peppery notes, along with a mind-clearing hint of eucalyptus.

We’re impressed by the way the scents really do fill the room – we could name some Very Expensive Candle Brands whose scents are so subtle, you virtually have to set fire to your hair to get a whiff. And honestly, the recommendations here simply scratch the surface of LORDS’ offering – so we recommend you head over to their website here. And there’ll be no more ‘saving your home fragrances for “best”’ – because these are NOT silly prices, especially for the quality.

Praise the LORDS.
