Fab Find of the Week: Cécred haircare (brought to you by Beyoncé)

We have entered ‘International Women’s Month.’ Once upon a time, only one day was devoted to women (out of 365), so it’s an improvement that female-focused events and media coverage are being extended over a whole month, in 2024.

We do long for a time when it won’t be necessary to place a special focus on women. But meanwhile, we decided at Beauty Bible to celebrate International Women’s Month ourselves by focusing primarily on female-founded brands – starting with Cécred, from none other than Beyoncé, who is a shining female role model for so many of us. We’re calling this special focus our ‘Female Founders Beauty Month.’

Let’s start by saying that we haven’t tried this line-up ourselves – because it isn’t targeted at us. But it is targeted at our many friends with curls and coils, who have often struggled to find great haircare. Notably, the Cécred website steers the customer to their ‘perfect match’ within the range via some really good and representative visuals of hairtypes (see just three of the examples below, in their SHOP BY HAIR TYPE section), so that it’s easy to identify the products for you.

There are shampoos, conditioners, hair oils, tools… And they have all been created by women who understand the challenges of caring for curls and coils. Importantly, as Beyoncé herself says, ‘As a Black founder, it was important to me to concentrate on where I saw the greatest need for healthy haircare and to place scientific innovation and product performance above all else. We started by prioritising the needs of textured hair like mine, along with other types and textures that need more moisture and strength.’

‘My entire life and career, I’ve worn my hair in so many different ways: natural, flat-ironed, braids, colored, weaves, wigs. I want everyone to have the freedom to express their hair in ways that make them feel good, so I began by creating the essentials for hair and scalp health. My vision is to be an inclusive force of excellence in the haircare industry while celebrating hair rituals across global cultures and helping dispel hair myths and misconceptions on all sides.’

Prices range from £24-42 (for a ritual) – so, not high street-ish, but in line with some of the other luxe ranges out there.

Meanwhile, we cannot think of a finer example of feminine power than Beyoncé and her range, to kick off our Female Beauty Founders Month.

Keep your eyes peeled for so many more products and brands, created by women, for women. And hurrah, for all of us!
